BRIEF: Man, 49, and firefighter injured during blaze at recycling plant

Aug. 08--A 49-year-old factory worker and a firefighter were injured during a fire at a recycling plant on the Near South Side on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze, in the 2300 block of South Laflin Street, was extinguished about 2 p.m., said Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.

One man, 49, was injured and taken in fair condition to University of Illinois Medical Center, said Hernandez.

"We're still on the scene, there's a lot of smoke," said Hernandez.

Also hurt was a firefighter who suffered "very minor" injuries and was taken to Rush University Medical Center in fair condition.

Several factory workers were standing outside after evacuating the one-story building.
