3 men wounded in shootings on South Side

May 07--Three men have been wounded during separate shootings since Wednesday morning on the city's South Side, police said.

Most recently, a 28-year-old man was wounded in a shooting around 2:56 a.m. Thursday in the West Chesterfield neighborhood, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

The man was standing outside in front of his home in the 0-100 block of East 89th Street when he saw black car drive by, police said. He then heard gunshots and realized he was struck, police said.

He was shot in the lower right side, right arm and left leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was listed in good condition, according to police.

Police found several shell casings at the crime scene.

No other information about the shooting was immediately available.

Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 26-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the back of his head around 10:30 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood, Gaines said.

The man was outside in the 5900 block of South Carpenter Street when somebody he knew fired shots, striking him, Gaines said.

The man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where his condition stabilized, Gaines said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member. A 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting.

No other information was immediately available about the shooting.

Earlier, a 29-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery about 11:50 a.m. in Chatham, police said.

The man and two other people were in the 800 block of East 84th Street in the process of installing windows in an apartment when two males armed with a gun approached them and demanded money, according to police.

The two masked attackers, one of whom had a gun, robbed two people first. When the 29-year-old resisted the robbery, a struggle ensued and he was shot in the leg, police said.

The attackers fled the scene in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was treated for his wound and released.

As of late Wednesday, no one was in custody as a result of all three shootings.
