BRIEF: Man, 24, shot on Northwest Side

Feb. 27--A man was shot in the head Thursday night on the city's Northwest Side, police said.

The 24-year-old man was shot about 9:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Merrimac Avenue in the Galewood neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was sitting in the passenger seat of a sedan on the block when three males approached the car and opened fire, Alfaro said.

The 24-year-old was shot in the back of his head. He was driven to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and later transferred to John H. Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

As of early Friday, no one was in custody in connection with the shooting, police said.
