BRIEF: Man, 23, killed in shootout on West Side

Dec. 24--A 23-year-old man was fatally shot early Tuesday during a gunfight on the city's West Side.

Police said the man was shot about 2:20 a.m. while exchanging gunfire with another man in the 500 block of South Central Park Boulevard, where it crosses the Eisenhower Expressway.

The 23-year-old was shot in his left shoulder and left leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the man as Youman McKenzie, of the 7000 block of South Winchester Avenue.

As of early Tuesday morning, no one was in custody in connection with the killing. Police said a gun was recovered from the scene and said the 23-year-old man is a documented gang member.
