BRIEF: Man, 19, dies after Spring Awakening music festival

June 15--A 19-year-old man died Sunday after attending a weekend music festival at Soldier Field.

Authorities said Steve Vongkoth, of the 6200 block of North Keystone Avenue in Chicago, was taken in a private ambulance Saturday night from the Spring Awakening electronic dance music festival to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he died Sunday morning.

Police were alerted after the death, said Chicago police spokeswoman Janel Sedevic, and a death investigation is underway. An autopsy was performed, but the cause of death was pending further studies.

Members of Vongkoth's family declined to comment Monday.

A neighbor described the family as tight-knit and quiet. Patricia McLean, who lives down the street from Vongkoth, said so many people were at their house to mourn this weekend that she initially thought they were throwing a barbecue.

McLean has a son about Vongkoth's age, and they played together as children, she said.

"This is so close to home," she said. "These kids go to these ridiculous concerts ... it's terrifying for parents."
