BRIEF: Malibu home of film producer Irwin Allen lists for sale

Dec. 10--The longtime home of film producer Irwin Allen and his wife, Sheila Mathews Allen, has come to market in Malibu at about $8 million.

Fronting La Costa Beach, the three-story residence features a kitchen, a dining room, a family room with a wet bar and a spa room in more than 3,200 square feet of living space. On the main floor, a double-high living room with floor-to-ceiling glass and a fireplace gives way to a large ocean-facing deck. The master suite occupies the entire third floor.

Elsewhere on the beachfront property are a pair of enclosed garages and a motor court.

Irwin Allen, who died in 1991 at 50, pioneered the science fiction and disaster film genres with such titles as "The Lost World" (1960) and "The Towering Inferno" (1974). His television credits include "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Land of the Giants."

Sheila Allen, who passed away in 2013 at 84, appeared in several of her husband's productions, including the series "Lost in Space" and the film "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972). She later served as president of Irwin Allen Productions for more than two decades.

Marcus Beck and Kate Novotny of Sotheby's International Realty hold the listing.
