BRIEF: Lyons man accused of promoting prostitution on Backpage

Dec. 20--A 31-year-old man has been charged with two counts of promoting prostitution after investigators discovered his prostitution operation being advertised on Backpage.com, said officials.

Abraham Banda of Lyons was ordered held on $25,000 bail during a hearing Friday at the Maywood courthouse. He was charge with promoting prostitution after a two-month investigation revealed he was involved in prostitution in the western suburbs, according to a press release from the Cook County Sheriff's office.

Investigators found advertisements promoting his operation on a website called Backpage.com, the release said.

Banda was arrested Wednesday in North Riverside, when officials said he was on his way to pick up money from his operation.

His next court date was scheduled for Jan. 8, 2015 in Maywood.
