BRIEF: Loyola volleyball star Jaeschke turning pro

July 08--Wheaton's Thomas Jaeschke has left the country's top collegiate volleyball team the past two seasons to join one of the top pro volleyball teams in Europe.

Jaeschke, reigning national player of the year, is skipping his senior year at Loyola in favor of playing with Asseco Resovia of Rzeszow, Poland.

The outside hitter from Warrenville South was instrumental in the Ramblers' winning back-to-back NCAA titles, the first Division I-II national championships for a school from the central time zone. Jaeschke was the first Loyola player to be named the national player of the year.

Asseco Resovia won its seventh Polish League title and finished second in the European Champions League last season, matching the best finish ever for a Polish team in the 56-year-history of the Champions League.

Jaeschke figures to be in the mix for a spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic volleyball team. He currently is a member of the U.S. team playing the final round of volleyball's World League July 15-19 in Rio de Janeiro.
