BRIEF: Los Angeles Times turns 133 today

Dec. 04--The Los Angeles Times first appeared in print (under the Los Angeles Daily Times banner) 133 years ago today.

History is chronicled in the pages of The Times. Tumult. Disaster. Triumph. April 19, 1906: "Heart Is Torn From Great City -- San Francisco Nearly Destroyed by Earthquakes and Fire." Nov. 1, 1918: "PEACE -- World War Ends as Germany Signs Armistice."

But the content of the inaugural issue was a bit less memorable. Among headlines were "A Vial of Vitriol -- An Unknown Scoundrel Hurls it on a Crowd" and "Cutting Whales in Two -- The Steamship Newport Runs into a School of Them."

Below, a zip through The Times' Globe Lobby, a look at the emblematic eagle, a spin through a few great front pages and a quick peek at our archives.

#TBT: Today is our 133rd #birthday! Here's a quick #tour of our Globe Lobby, which has remained virtually unchanged since #1935. #throwbackthursday #hyperlapse #video #history #newspapers #artdeco
