BRIEF: 'Lord of the Dance' star: My parents dragged me to dance class

Nov. 16--As "Lord of the Dance" star Michael Flatley gets ready to take his final bow, he reveals he didn't want to be a dancer growing up on the South Side.

"I was about 11 years old. I did the noble thing. I was dragged by my two ears by my parents down to the dance class, and I hated it," Flatley, who studied at the Dennehy School of Irish Dance on the Southwest Side, told Inside Edition in a story posted online last week.

Flatley, who helped popularize Irish step-dancing, said he is retiring because of injuries. His show "Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games" debuted last week on Broadway and has performances scheduled into January.

Flatley and his troupe performed on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Friday.
