BRIEF: Look to the night sky on a bike tour through Utah's Canyonlands National Park

Feb. 16--Mountain bike by day, stargaze by night on a new adventure offered by Holiday River Expeditions in cooperation with the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City. Its White Rim Trail bike trip will lead cyclists through Utah's Canyonlands National Park, which was recently certified as a "dark sky park" by the International Dark Sky Assn.

The technically challenging trail circles the region between the Colorado and Green rivers above the confluence, and passes by some of Canyonland's most spectacular views. At night, participants will attempt to find and identify stars, constellations, planets and other celestial bodies. A Clark Planetarium representative will accompany the trip.

Dates: May 7-9 and Oct. 1-4. Each trip takes place during the the new-moon phase for the darkest sky.

Price: From $750 per person. Includes all meals, drinks and some equipment. Bicycle and helmet rental available for $160 per bike.

Info: Holiday River Expeditions, (800) 624-6323
