BRIEF: Long Tall Sally opens Chicago-area store

Aug. 28--Long Tall Sally, a British retailer catering to tall women, has opened a Chicago-area store, now one of four in the United States.

The merchant, which also has stores in suburban Detroit, Denver and Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., sells clothing and accessories, including shoes up to size 15, for women who are 5-foot-8 and taller.

The Oakbrook Terrace store, which opened earlier this month and has its grand opening Sept. 17, is at 1 South 550 Route 83.

Long Tall Sally's sales floor is about 1,850 square feet. For comparison's sake, the typical Ulta store is about 10,000 square feet.

Long Tall Sally has done pop-up stores in the Chicago area in recent years, spokeswoman Brooke Rinehart said. The retailer, founded in 1976, has been owned since 2005 by London-based retail investor Amery Capital.

According to an article earlier this year in Drapers, a fashion publication in the United Kingdom, Long Tall Sally had been struggling but under Amery it has been turned around.
