March 28--Sam Acho agreed Monday to re-sign with the Bears, adding a proven special-teams contributor and depth at outside linebacker. Acho's agency announced the news on Twitter without disclosing terms.
Acho played 43 percent of defensive snaps last season, mostly in the base personnel grouping. As his fellow outside linebackers Willie Young and Lamarr Houston worked back from injuries, coaches trusted Acho to help set the edge against the run.
Coach John Fox said last week the Bears hope to improve their speed at outside linebacker, and at this point in the offseason, the most significant gains in that area would be through the draft. If the Bears end up addressing the position with a high pick, Acho would likely be cast mainly in a special-teams role and a rotational role defensively.
Bears coaches credited Acho last season with 60 tackles (21 solo), including three tackles for a loss, and four quarterback pressures in 15 games. He also forced a fumble and recovered one.
