BRIEF: Lindsey Vonn misses big win; Lindsey Jacobellis takes world title

Jan. 16--On a busy day for American skiers and snowboarders, Lindsey Vonn missed a historic win but Lindsey Jacobellis captured her fourth world title.

Vonn, who is chasing the women's career record for World Cup victories, remains one short after finishing 10th in the fog and snow at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, on Friday.

"I charged but I had a hard time seeing everything," she said after the downhill, adding: "The pressure will be there until I break the record."

Jacobellis fared better in snowboard cross at the world championships in Kreischberg, Austria. Though her start was off, she was able to finish strongly to add to previous world titles in 2005, '07 and '11.

In Wengen, Switzerland, Ted Ligety finished fifth in the super combined.

"It wasn't great skiing," Ligety said. "My turns were really grindy in some places."

Bode Miller chose to skip the racing as he continues to recover from injury, but was hoping to compete at Kitzbuehel.
