Jan. 19--Now that Lindsey Vonn has set the record for World Cup wins in skiing, the American racer is hoping for something more.
As in more fans.
"America is very record-centric," she said after her victory in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, on Monday. "Hopefully this will bring more attention to the sport."
Vonn has already generated a career's worth of buzz by way of her Olympic medals, world championships and a long-running relationship with golfer Tiger Woods, who made a surprise visit to Italy.
A 63rd victory in World Cup competition could create additional momentum in advance of the world championships in Vail/Beaver Creek, Colo., next month.
Vonn senses an opportunity.
"I hope I can do something special," she said.
