BRIEF: Liliko'i Kepolo an interesting, refreshing hybrid from Avery Brewing

June 03--What it is: A refreshing, summer-ready hybrid from the always-dependable Avery Brewing in Boulder, Colo., Liliko'i Kepolo (Hawaiian for "passion fruit devil") is a bright Belgian white ale that gets an infusion of juicy passion fruit. Think of it as Belgium-meets-Hawaii.

In the can: Light, bright and made for warm weather -- though in reality, appropriate all year long -- Liliko'i Kepolo is a fairly layered and interesting beer no matter how easy it is to drink. Fruity notes abound, notably lemon, peach, mango and green apple, all of which are tied together by the faintest peppery zing. Another interesting layer comes from the fact that Liliko'i Kepolo isn't sweet; it's lightly tart, which both refreshes and rejuvenates the palate on a hot day or alongside a meal.

Alcohol: 5.4 percent

Drink it with: Most meals would benefit from the bright fruitiness of Liliko'i Kepolo -- especially barbecued chicken.

Find it: Liliko'i Kepolo is available year-round in six-packs of 12-ounce cans at better beer stores.
