BRIEF: LeSean McCoy should return from hamstring injury in time for regular-season opener

Aug. 19--Buffalo running back LeSean McCoy is expected to be back from a hamstring injury in time for the Bills' Week 1 game against Indianapolis on Sept. 13, according to multiple media reports.

The 2013 NFL rushing champ strained his left hamstring Tuesday night during a joint practice against Cleveland. Coach Rex Ryan said after practice that the hamstring was intact and hadn't been pulled off the bone. He called that information "a real positive."

About an hour into practice, McCoy pulled up while running a route during a 7-on-7 red-zone drill. He walked back to the sideline holding the back of his leg and sat down to be treated by trainers, then needed help getting up before walking stiff-legged back to the locker room.

With four other running backs expected to miss at least a week more because of injuries, the Bills signed Cierre Wood, an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame who has played in five games and appeared on three rosters in his two NFL seasons.

The Bills traded linebacker Kiko Alonso to the Philadelphia Eagles for McCoy back in March.
