BRIEF: LeSean McCoy, Buffalo Bills reportedly agree to $40-million contract

March 08--The Buffalo Bills and newly acquired running back LeSean McCoy has agreed to a five-year, $40-million contract, NFL.com reported Sunday.

McCoy reportedly will make $26.5 million in guaranteed salary and is set to make $16 million during his first year in Buffalo.

He was acquired by the Bills from the Philadelphia Eagles last week in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso. The surprising trade will not become official until the NFL's new year starts Tuesday.

Despite an inconsistent 2014 season, McCoy is considered one of the league's top running backs. He led the NFL with 1,607 rushing yards in 2013, but was limited to 1,319 yards and five touchdowns last season behind an offensive line hobbled by injuries.

Since joining the league in 2009, McCoy ranks third in total rushing yards (6,792) and fourth in touchdowns (44).

McCoy figures to play a prominent role in the Bills offense behind quarterbacks EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel, who will battle for the starting job.
