April 06--The League of Chicago Theatres announced on Monday that it's received a $500,000 grant from the MacArthur Foundation.
The trade organization representing more than 200 local theaters intends to use the money to aid small theaters in improving the safety conditions of their spaces and become fully licensed under the City of Chicago's Performing Arts Venue License.
Theater companies with operating budgets under $1 million will be given preference for these grants.
