BRIEF: Laurie Anderson's 'Heart of a Dog' to air on HBO in April

Jan. 11--Artist Laurie Anderson's 2015 "Heart of a Dog" documentary, about love and loss after the death of her rat terrier Lolabelle, is slated to air on HBO April 25, the network announced last week.

Anderson, who grew up in Glen Ellyn, last week performed a concert for dogs in New York City to honor Sept. 11 first-responder dogs. Lolabelle died in 2011.

The movie, which was shortlisted for the documentary feature Oscar, is also scheduled to screen this month at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St.

"Heart of a Dog" is not the only documentary with Chicago-area ties set to air on HBO early this year. "Jim: The James Foley Story," about journalist James Foley, a Northwestern University alumnus who was kidnapped in Syria and beheaded by ISIS militants, is scheduled to air Feb. 6.

Soul music legend Mavis Staples, who grew up on the South Side, is the subject of "Mavis!," which is slated to air Feb. 29.
