Dec. 18--Lyric Opera's spring production of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's "Carousel" will boast some top-drawer Broadway talent.
In addition to the previously announced Steven Pasquale ("The Bridges of Madison County") as Billy Bigelow, Laura Osnes will play the leading role of Julie Jordan, Lyric announced on Thursday.
Since winning the role of Sandy in the Broadway revival of "Grease" in 2007 -- she got the part via the reality TV show "Grease: You're The One That I Want!" -- Osnes has enjoyed a fruitful Broadway career, appearing in such shows as "South Pacific," "Bonnie and Clyde" and most recently "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella."
Aside from Osnes and Pasquale, the only other "Carousel" casting announced so far is opera singer Denyce Graves as Nettie Fowler. Rob Ashford, represented at Lyric this year by "The Barber of Seville," will direct and choreograph the production.
