BRIEF: Larry Fitzgerald finalizes new contract with Arizona Cardinals

Feb. 18--Carson Palmer may still be recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but at least he'll have Larry Fitzgerald to throw the ball to next season.

Arizona Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim announced Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team has finalized a new, two-year deal with Fitzgerald. According to NFL.com, Fitzgerald will make $11 million per season.

Fitzgerald was slated to make $16 million next season and the restructuring of his deal will help the Cardinals free up salary-cap space.

"The two biggest pulls for us were pretty simple," Keim said. "No. 1 to compensate Larry for the type of player, the type of talent he is and the leader that he is. And then essentially clearing up enough salary-cap space for us moving forward to be able to be aggressive and proactive when free agency starts."

Fitzgerald, 32, is the Cardinals' all-time leading receiver. In 11 NFL seasons, Fitzgerald has 12,151 career receiving yards and 89 touchdowns. The eight-time Pro Bowler had a career-low 780 yards receiving last season.
