Jan. 08--A Los Angeles Police Department officer pleaded guilty Wednesday to beating a teenager for poor grades and behavior, leaving bruises and welts on his body.
Daniel Hun Chun, 40, who was off-duty when the crime was committed, faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail, according to the Orange County district attorney's office. He also faces a $2,000 fine.
Prosecutors said Chun confronted the youth about 4 p.m. on March 13 about poor grades and behavior issues.
During the confrontation, Chun beat the boy with various household items, striking him on the shoulders, back and buttocks, prosecutors said.
Chun's attorney Jimmy Cha declined to comment on the case and said the nature of the allegations are personal. He also declined to say whether Chun is still employed with the LAPD.
LAPD officials said they could find no records for a Daniel H. Chun, only a Daniel M. Chun.
Chun sentencing is set for March 5 at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
