April 25--A standoff with an armed suspect who allegedly pointed his gun at children and fired it randomly when police arrived surrendered Friday night in Van Nuys, Los Angeles police said.
Police and SWAT officers responded to a barricade situation around 1 p.m. in the 15900 block of Sherman Way, said Drake Madison, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
The suspect was allegedly pointing a handgun at children prior to police arriving.
Once officers and SWAT were on scene, "a couple of random shots" were fired by the suspect, but "police did not fire back," said Sgt. Vincent Aguirre, an LAPD spokesman.
The suspect did not appear to be targeting anything, Aguirre said.
The unidentified man surrendered and walked out around 5:45 p.m., Aguirre said.
Some evacuations were ordered, police said. No injuries have been reported.
