April 24--A Los Angeles Police Department horse was vandalized with silver graffiti this week while patrolling Venice Beach.
The horse named Charly was working a crime suppression detail at Venice Beach on Tuesday when a suspect marked its hindquarters with several letters, according to police.
Officers were able to remove the graffiti from Charly's hindquarters. But now the search is on for the person who was brazen enough to mark it.
Charly has worked in the department's crime suppression unit for eight years, Officer Liliana Preciado said.
The unit provides increased visibility in high-crime areas and is deployed at various hours.
Established in 1987, LAPD's full-time mounted platoon has 32 horses financed by donations and the Los Angeles Police Equestrian Fund.
The unit includes a lieutenant, four sergeants and 30 officers who work at the two-acre Ahmanson Equestrian Facility.
