BRIEF: Lanes reopen after car fire, hit-and-run crash on I-55 lanes near Lake Shore Drive

March 20--All eastbound lanes have reopened on the Stevenson Expressway after a man jumped out of his burning car and was hit by another vehicle that drove off near Lake Shore Drive.

Earlier, the hit-and-run accident shutdown the eastbound lanes just west of Lake Shore Drive, police said.

Police said the car fire broke out about 1 p.m. as the driver went east toward Lake Shore, and the driver got out of his car and was hit by another vehicle near the King Drive exit, according to a news release from Illinois State Police.

One person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with head injuries, according to State Police.

Police did not have any information on the vehicle that hit the driver, and were asking for the public's help. Anyone with information about the car fire or the hit-and-run is asked to call State Police at 847-294-4400.
