BRIEF: Lance Briggs hoping to 'get a call' from new Bears regime

Jan. 27--Lance Briggs admitted midway through the 2014 season that "this probably will be my last year as a Chicago Bear." But the veteran linebacker hasn't given up hope.

Briggs, 34, is out of contract after missing the Bears' final five games because of a groin injury. The assumption was that he and the team would go their separate ways, but that was before the Bears dumped general manager Phil Emery to hire Ryan Pace and replaced coach Marc Trestman with John Fox.

Would the new regime consider bringing Briggs back to bolster the depth at linebacker and help provide veteran leadership?

"In my opinion, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't want to do that," Briggs said Monday on Comcast SportsNet. "Obviously, in the draft, that's probably going to be one of the focal points is getting a linebacker, but even so, a guy who's been around, a guy who understands football, who's a great football player and can play at a high level still, to me, is enticing. So a guy like John Fox -- love the hire -- and hopefully I get a call and I get an opportunity to come back and play in Chicago, where I'm supposed to be."

Briggs discusses his future and more in this video:
