Nov. 07--A suburban man faces charges after sending nude images to a minor through social media, Crystal Lake police said.
Tyler J. Whitfield, 24, of Lakewood, was arrested at his home Nov. 3 and charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual exploitation of a child and a felony count of grooming, police said.
Police say Whitfield had been in contact with a minor in Crystal Lake since June through social media platforms such as Facebook, according to a press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department. The conversation became sexual and while the minor tried to quash it, Whitfield allegedly transmitted nude images of himself engaging in sexual acts, officials said.
An investigation began after a Crystal Lake Police Department school resource officer heard about the incidents, police said. Whitfield's smartphone and laptop computer were taken by police. He posted 10 percent of his $10,000 bond and was scheduled to be back in McHenry County court on Dec. 2.
