Jan. 30--A Lake Bluff contractor was charged with felony theft after getting a $9,000 deposit from a homeowner for a roofing job and failing to do the work, authorities said.
Robert Madro, 57, who owns Timberline Exteriors, in the 900 block of Jenkinsson Avenue, entered into a contact with a homeowner in May 2014 to replace a roof. The homeowner gave Madro $9,000 to start the work, according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
When Madro failed to begin the work by August, the homeowner asked him to return the money. When several months went by without the deposit being returned, the homeowner filed a complaint with the sheriff's office, according to the release.
After an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Madro and he was charged with theft by deception, authorities said.
Madro turned himself in Thursday and was released on a $50,000 recognizance bond, according to the sheriff's office.
His next scheduled court date is Feb. 2.
