BRIEF: LA 2024 adds former Paralympic athlete to Olympics bid campaign

March 07--The LA 2024 committee has named former Paralympic athlete Candace Cable as a vice chair in the campaign to bring the Olympics and Paralympics to Southern California.

Cable has promoted the sport of wheelchair racing since the 1970s and has also competed as a disabled skier. Her competitive resume includes nine Paralympic Games and 12 medals.

"I look forward to connecting the bid with my broad perspective on diversity and inclusion, not just disability, but gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race and socioeconomic status," she said in a statement.

Since retiring in 2006, Cable has served as a consultant on adaptive sports and disability issues.

"Candace's insights will be invaluable to LA 2024 as our bid progresses," LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said.
