July 01--The L.A. Kings' search for a backup goalie ended before lunch on the opening day of free agency as they signed Jhonas Enroth to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.
They had been looking to fill the spot since trading Martin Jones, who had been the backup to Kings starter Jonathan Quick, to the Boston Bruins on Friday. Jones has since been moved to the San Jose Sharks.
Their first target on Wednesday was Thomas Greiss, but Greiss quickly signed a two-year deal with the New York Islanders, forcing the Kings to look elsewhere.
Enroth, at 5-feet-10, 170 pounds, is one of the smaller, if not the smallest goalie in the NHL. He is acrobatic and was moved to Dallas from Buffalo this last season. The suggestion was that he was playing at too high a level for a Buffalo team that was targeting a 30th-place finish in hopes of drafting Connor McDavid.
