BRIEF: Suspect in custody after releasing hostage in South L.A., officials say

Nov. 19--An hours-long hostage situation in Westmont ended Tuesday night with the release of the hostage and the suspect later being taken into custody.

The incident was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of West 109th Place, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's officials.

Authorities responded to a hang-up call to 911 from a home in the area. When they arrived, they discovered a man was being held at gunpoint in a residence, officials said. Authorities evacuated the surrounding homes, officials said.

Hours later, the hostage was released, but the suspect remained barricaded inside the home, according to the sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau. At about 11:13 p.m., he was taken into custody.

No other details were available.
