BRIEF: Kyle Schwarber to bat leadoff, Javier Baez in CF in Cubs' exhibition opener Thursday

March 02--Kyle Schwarber will get a chance to show his improvement in left field, and Javier Baez will start in center field Thursday when the Chicago Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers at Maryvale.

Schwarber, who struggled in left during the National League Championship Series, also will bat in the leadoff spot as Dexter Fowler, Ben Zobrist and Jason Heyward won't travel with the team.

Baez, an infielder who didn't start working in center field until December in the Puerto Rican League, is looking forward to getting a chance to start there.

Travis Wood will start for the Cubs. Kyle Hendricks and left-handers Clayton Richard and Rex Brothers also are scheduled to pitch.

Here's the Cubs' lineup:

Bryant 3b

Rizzo 1b
