Oct. 15--After starting the season without a contract, defenseman Kyle Cumiskey re-signed with the Blackhawks on Thursday, agreeing to a one-year deal with the team.
Cumiskey played in seven games for the Hawks last season but began camp on a professional tryout agreement after he had a procedure to repair a lower-body injury this offseason.
But after signing him, the team put Cumiskey on waivers, according to a report from TSN.
The move could give the Hawks the option to send Cumiskey down to Rockford should he clear waivers.
The Hawks are already thin on the blue line with Michal Rozsival beginning the season on long-term injured reserve.
Cumiskey, 28, spent most of last season in Rockford after returning to North America following a stint in Sweden. Cumiskey played in nine games for the Hawks during the postseason after Rozsival went down because of an ankle injury.
