April 15--Cubs 1, Reds 0 (third inning)
Kris Bryant hit his second home run in as many games as the Cubs surged to a 1-0 lead Thursday night over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs are trying to extend their win streak to five games and start the season 8-1 for the first time since 1969.
At the plate:
Dexter Fowler led off the bottom of the first with a single, marking the ninth consecutive game he has reached base safely. Unfortunately for Fowler, he was doubled off second base after Ben Zobrist flied to right.
On the mound:
Jason Hammel has allowed one hit through the first two innings -- a double by Adam Duvall that scooted past Tommy La Stella at third base.
In the field:
Hammel helped his cause by picking speedy Billy Hamilton off first base in the top of the first. Second baseman Ben Zobrist wisely moved to his right to catch a line drive by Jordan Pacheco for the final out of the second.
