March 23--Kokandy Productions announced its 2016 season on Monday, while also appending its 2015 season with a third production.
That third slot will be filled with a holiday show called "A Kokandy Christmas" to be performed Dec. 3-24, 2015. The company said the revue, which was developed by Allison Hendrix and Michael Potsic, is inspired by holiday television specials. Potsic will direct and Kory Danielson will be music director.
The 2016 begins with "Heathers: The Musical" (Feb.-April). Based on the campy 1988 film of the same name, the musical is about a posh clique of high school girls that calls itself the Heathers. It features a book and score by Laurence O'Keefe (also the writer of "Legally Blonde") and Kevin Murphy. Allison Hendrix will direct the production, with musical direction by Aaron Benham.
And the company's summer show is the comedy "Gutenberg! The Musical" (July-August) a two-hander by Scott Brown and Anthony King wherein a duo performs their work-in-progress musical about the inventor of the printing press for a group of producers. John D. Glover will direct and Kory Danielson will be music director.
All three productions will be performed at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave.
