Dec. 09--Kohl's Department Stores is kicking its holiday season into overdrive by opening for more than 100 straight hours in the days leading up to Christmas.
The round-the-clock hours begin Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. and will run until Christmas Eve at 6 p.m., the Menomonee, Wis., company said Tuesday. As the holiday season ticks down, retailers are expected to pull out all the stops in an effort to attract shoppers to their stores.
"Customers can rely on us around the clock for their last-minute gift-giving solutions," Michael Gass, Kohl's chief customer officer, said in a statement. "We are providing 24-hour access to Kohl's stores."
Customers can continue to see a blizzard of sales during the rest of the crucial holiday season, when retailers can make up to 40% of their annual sales.
Companies big and small may continue ramping up their promotions after a surprisingly lackluster Black Friday. During Thanksgiving Day through Sunday, total spending dropped 11.3% and traffic fell 5.2%.
Research firm ShopperTrak predicted that Super Saturday -- industry lingo for the last Saturday before Christmas -- will surpass Black Friday as the No. 1 shopping day of the year.
