Oct. 16--Kohl's is testing same-day delivery for online purchases in select markets, including Chicago.
Customers in the pilot cities can place orders on Kohls.com, pick the same-day delivery option, and the product will be delivered that day, said Julia Fennelly, spokeswoman for the Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based department store chain.
According to the Kohl's website, same-day delivery is $9.95 or $14.95, depending on the order amount, and orders have to be placed by 1 p.m. for delivery by 8 p.m.
Same-day delivery was one of several digital shopping improvements that Kohl's announced last month, although at the time it didn't disclose the test markets.
Kohl's announcement came only days after Macy's and Bloomingdale's, both owned by Macy's, also disclosed plans to test same-day delivery for online purchases, including in Chicago.
The three bricks-and-mortar department stores are among the growing ranks of retailers trying to compete with superfast delivery options offered by Amazon.com. The online merchant's Prime service offers two-hour delivery for free and one-hour delivery for $7.99.
