BRIEF: Kings' Slava Voynov pleads not guilty to domestic violence charge

Dec. 01--Kings defenseman Slava Voynov pleaded not guilty to a felony domestic violence charge Monday during his arraignment in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Torrance.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15 in the case stemming from an alleged incident in October involving Voynov's wife, Marta Varlamova, at their Redondo Beach home.

Last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged Voynov with corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury.

"During an argument ... Voynov caused his wife to suffer injuries to her eyebrow, cheek and neck," a statement from the district attorney's office said.

Attorneys representing Voynov and Varlamova have disputed that characterization of events.

The charge carries a maximum of nine years in prison if Voynov is found guilty.

He remains suspended indefinitely with pay by the NHL.
