BRIEF: Kings and Ducks' TV ratings on the rise

Dec. 18--The on-ice success of the Kings and the Ducks has translated into increased Nielsen TV ratings for both teams this season.

Household ratings in the Los Angeles market for the Kings, the defending Stanley Cup champions, are up 46% compared to the same number of games last season. Their household rating is 0.51, The Kings' primary TV home is Fox Sports West.

Household ratings in the market for the Ducks, who have been at or near the top of the NHL standings most of this season, are up 56% compared to the same number of games last season. Their household rating is 0.28. The Ducks' primary TV outlet is Prime Ticket.

Both teams have had road-heavy schedules with games that started before prime-time hours in Southern California, which can affect viewership.

Ratings for "Kings Live" and "Ducks Live," the respective teams' pre- and postgame shows, also have risen.

A few days ago, Times staff writer Ben Bolch reported that Nielsen TV ratings for the Lakers and Clippers were down this season compared to the same period last season.
