BRIEF: Kanela opens Streeterville location

July 13--At long last, Streeterville has joined the breakfast club.

Kanela Breakfast Club opened its fourth and long-awaited location in Streeterville (502 E. Illinois St., 312-380-0071) Monday.

Tucked into a luxury apartment building at the corner of Illinois and Peshtigo Court, the new Kanela mimics its siblings with an identical breakfast-lunch-brunch menu, including the signature Kanela french toast with challah, lemon creme fraiche and apricot jam. The Streeterville location is the only one to feature fresh-baked pastries and pies from Bang Bang Pie Shop.

The sunny dining room features hardwood floors, wood-topped tables and walnut-clad walls, along with a series of hanging filament bulbs over the diner-style counter. There's a good-size carryout counter for breakfast on the move, and free Wi-Fi for those who stay put.

Kanela Breakfast Club is open 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. No reservations.

And it's five blocks from my office. Color me happy.
