BRIEF: Jorge Soler hopes to resume swinging a bat Friday

Sept. 02--Chicago Cubs rookie right fielder Jorge Soler believes his left oblique strain won't cost him the remainder of the regular season.

To prove his point, Soler hopes to resume swinging a bat Friday.

"I believe I can be back before the season ends," Soler said.

Soler was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Aug. 24. But he revealed that he initially hurt his side on a throw on Aug. 22, and the pain increased the following day.

"I'm really disappointed with myself," Soler said. "This is the second time I've been on the disabled list, and it's really late."

Soler's development has been tempered by numerous leg injuries. His 90 games are the most he's played in his professional career, yet he missed nearly five weeks because of an ankle injury.

"I feel much better," Soler said.
