Sept. 11--Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler will begin his rehab stint in the playoffs, but he's not waiting for October.
The Cubs sent Soler to Class-A Myrtle Beach Friday to play in their do-or-die playoff game tonight against Winston-Salem. The Pelicans won Thursday's game 4-3 to tie the series at a game apiece.
Soler has been out since Aug. 24 with an oblique injury, and is hoping to get healthy and back in the Cubs' lineup for the stretch run and the postseason. The 23-year-old outfielder is batting .265 with 7 home runs and 42 RBI in 90 games with the Cubs this season. He has struck out 111 times in 343 at-bats, a 32 percent whiff rate.
Soler will stay with the Pelicans if they win. The championship round of the Carolina League will begin Sunday.
Myrtle Beach manager Mark Johnson is after his second straight title after guiding Kane County to the Midwest League championship in 2014.
