May 08--Jones College Prep High School in the South Loop was placed on "soft lockdown" Friday morning following what school officials said was "an unspecified threat received on Facebook," according to a message sent to parents.
Chicago police and Chicago Public Schools security personnel were on scene at the school, 700 S. State St., and "all students are safe," according to the message sent to parents this morning.
There were no reports of injuries and the lockdown was lifted about 11 a.m., according to CPS.
"School leadership notified the Chicago Police Department after learning of a potential threat that was revealed to be unfounded," CPS spokewoman Lauren Huffman said in a statement emailed about 3 hours after authorities were called. "While this matter is still under investigation, at no point were any students in danger. As always, we continue to work with our partners at CPD to ensure student safety."
The school went into lockdown as a precaution, according to CPS. Students will be required to stay on-campus for lunch, while police and school security continue to monitor the situation, according to CPS.
