BRIEF: Jon Lester throws glove with ball stuck in it to first base for an out

April 19--Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester used a little ingenuity to get an out in a game against the San Diego Padres when the ball got stuck in his glove.

With one out and a runner on first base, Padres shortstop Clint Barmes hit a one-hopper to Lester, who gloved the ball and spun toward second base to start a potential double play.

Lester, though, couldn't pull the ball out of his glove. Although rare, it's happened before, so the left-handed pitcher knew what to do.

He calmly turned toward first base, took a few steps as he pulled his glove off his right hand and tossed the glove underhanded to first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

Rizzo also knew what to do. He dropped his first baseman's glove so he could easily grasp Lester's glove with both hands. Barmes was put out, as you can see in the video above.

Lester, unfortunately, had given up a two-run home run to Will Middlebrooks earlier in the second inning and another run in the sixth inning in a 5-2 loss.
