BRIEF: Joliet man dies in one-car crash on I-55

Jan. 20--A 34-year-old Joliet man died Sunday night after his vehicle went off of Interstate 55 in Plainfield, according to the Will County coroner's office.

Steven R. McMullan, was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the coroner.

McMullan was driving south on I-55 when he left the road, striking multiple trees and coming to a stop in a ditch off the frontage road just north of Lockport Street in Plainfield, according ot the coroner.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to the coroner.

Preliminary autopsy findings reveal that McMullan died of multiple injuries suffered in the accident, but the final cause and manner of death is pending the outcomes of police and toxicology reports, according to the coroner.

Illinois State Police did not return requests for comment.
