BRIEF: Joliet elementary teacher competing in 'Jeopardy' tournament

April 26--Kaberi Chakrabarty, a teacher at Sator Sanchez Elementary School in Joliet, is set to compete in the "Jeopardy" teachers tournament.

Chakrabarty is one of 15 teachers vying for $100,000 in the two-week tournament, which is scheduled to begin airing Monday. Chakrabarty faces a teacher from Connecticut and a Michigan educator in the May 6 episode.

Each contestant is supposed to receive $2,500 for classroom projects.

Chakrabarty, who attended Willowbrook High School in Villa Park and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, said she plans to use the grant to buy science experiment kits, musical instruments and math blocks.

"Our bilingual kids are still learning English so they really can use things to work with to help them learn," Chakrabarty says in a video preview of the tournament.

"Jeopardy" airs 3:30 p.m. weekdays on WLS-Ch. 7.
