BRIEF: Johnsburg man, 41, killed in pedestrian accident

Aug. 04--A Johnsburg man was killed while walking along Route 120 in McHenry on Tuesday morning after he was struck by two semitrailers, officials said.

The death of Robert P. Choate Jr., 41, is being investigated by the McHenry County coroner's office, with an autopsy and toxicology tests scheduled Wednesday, according to the office.

Choate was observed walking on Route 120 near Kent Road shortly before 9 a.m. when he was hit by a truck. After "getting up and walking further, (he) was subsequently struck by a second semi," according to Coroner Anne Majewsk's office.

He was taken to Centegra Hospital-McHenry and pronounced dead at 9:24 a.m., officials said.

The road reopened about 1 p.m., said McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Sheriff Aimee Knop.

She also described the trucks as a box truck and a semi-tractor trailer truck, both traveling eastbound when the crash occurred.
