BRIEF: Jogger stabbed in suburban forest preserve

Nov. 30--A woman was stabbed while jogging in a forest perserve in northwest suburban Palatine on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The woman, 33, was jogging on a path in the Deer Grove Forest Preserve about 4:15 p.m. when a man ran up to her, stabbed her in the abdomen and then fled, said Don Parker, a spokesman for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

The woman was able to drive to a nearby home where an ambulance was called, Parker said. The woman was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where her condition was stabilized.

The attacker was described as a Hispanic man wearing a black shirt. The man was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, bald, and had two piercings in his right ear.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office had taken over the investigation as of Saturday night. Anyone with information can call authorities at (708) 771-1000.
