BRIEF: Joel Quenneville expected to be named Team Canada assistant

Nov. 04--Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville will try his hand at international coaching during the World Cup in 2016.

Quenneville is expected be named an assistant coach for Team Canada at the upcoming even, TSN reported Tuesday.

Quenneville would serve on the staff of Leafs coach Mike Babcock, who coached Team Canada to the gold medal at the last two Olympics.

Quenneville declined to say if Canadian hockey officials had approached him about the role, except to say that if he was offered the job, "It would be the thrill of a lifetime."

By accepting an assistant's job now, Quenneville could be in line for the head job in future years should Babcock step down from it.

Bruins coach Claude Julien(cq) is also expected to be on Babcock's staff.
